Street Smell in Heights

Has anyone noticed a sweet, unpleasant smell on Henry Street or Montague Street this week. I have thankfully ruled out my house which has enough problems and determined that something is in the air. I met the man of my dreams here on Brownstoner and he is coming over Friday so if I can at least have a valid excuse for the smell it would help.

Just tell him it's the smell of love

isn't that where the malodorous ginko tree is? there is a female ginko that someone must have planted by mistake decades ago that smells awful every year. Actually it's the ginko fruit that smell awful.

Gingko fruit would be my guess, too, if the trees are dropping fruit already. If you get even the tiniest bit of that stuff on your shoes you will track it everywhere and it will seem like the smell is following you. I don't know that I would describe the smell of gingko as sweet, though, I've always described it as a mixture of cheese and poop.

The gingko is on hicks between montague and pierrepont (not henry).

There was an awful garbage-filled-with-dead-fish-rotting-out-on-the-street smell last week on montague between henry and clinton (when it was hot), but I haven't noticed it this week.

That was me. I was in that neighborhood yesterday. It was a manly smell.

The man of your dreams and you're still blogging? Don't you have a new hobby?

I love the idea of different Brownstoner's getting together- timid new homeowners, hipsters and BK oldtimers, stalwart DIY renovators, sleazy agents and developers, manly but untrustworthy contractors - it sounds like a soap opera.
But to OP - good luck in your new relationship.

The most fancy nabe in Brooklyn has always had a vile stink too it...time to move to Clinton Hill.

Nothing like the stink that Clinton Hill has begun to create for itself.

I think it WAS that tree and some unfortunate fluid on the street. It seems to have gone away.

that is the cutest thing ever that you met someone on brownstoner. I remember your original post. What a happy ending.
