Should we renovate our bathroom before selling?
We are preparing to sell our east village prewar apartment to move to Brooklyn. The apartment has been recently renovated except for the bathroom and I was wondering if anybody had any advice on whether we should re do the bathroom (which functions but doesn't look very nice) before putting it on the market or just leave it as is?

No do not renovate. The new owner will do what they want. Just some paint and make it as clean as possible. The key to showing well is make sure your place is very clean and has NO CLUTTER.
Its a waste to renovate and have the new owner come in and throw out all the $tuff you put in.

My advice would be not to spend a ton of money on a high end renovation, but give yourself a $500 budget or so to make some small changes that will just make it look nicer. A new coat of paint, perhaps a new light fixture or mirror... you know, the kind of stuff they do on those Sell My House shows!

An inepxpensive re-do will ADD value and you will not lose your money. A new owner would rather live with a neat and workable finished bathroom till they can afford to change it rather than inherit one that gives them no choice but to factor in how much it will cost THEM to do it therefore affecting the offer.

re: those shows on HGTV, they fix up some apartment cheaply then rate how much more they can get away with in asking price? also consider that a lotta people say kitchens and bathrooms are what sells an apartment. despite the logic that a buyer could do whatever they want with a place after buying it, they will pay lots more if you do it for them!!

If as you say the bathroom "doesn't look very nice"
then you have to do something to make it look nice.
