Privacy in a First floor Apt?

Suggestions please..

I have a ground floor apt. with 4 large windows(behind security Bars) and would like to know does anyone have any ideas for creating more privacy.

I have curtains up and blinds also...but other than that any ideas..

My goal is to be able to leave blinds and curtains open(but down)..all the while not ending up on youtube..My paranoia is at defcon 1..

Has anyone considered or heard of tinting film(thats removable of course)? or maybe some type of privacy mesh?

Comments

I have that same issue since I put my bedroom in the ground floor facing the street (not the quietest but left space for a nice parlor floor. Anyway, the thing I miss is having natural sunlight in there. I have blinds and they are always closed. (Once when they were only 99% closed, there was a peeping Tom angling from the outside, trying to look in....). I was thinking about mirrored glass or some kind of tint myself. Recently I put window screens in which are black and really seem to block visibility from the street. Still I would like to be able to look out

I live in the front, also on the first floor. I have the kind of shades that are called "Top Down - Bottom Up" This way you have light and clear view out the top of the window and privacy on the bottom. You can get them from Levolor or Smith and Noble. They are easy to install.

The house on PPW at the top of Carroll Street in Park Slope put in shades that block people from seeing in, yet let in tremendous light and allow them to see out. I don't know who makes them. I have also seen people plant greenery just outside the windows, either in window boxes or in planters. It's just enough to create privacy, but allows light.

Thanks all..

Anon 11:19..Black screens? What/where did you get these and did they really help?

I see Im not the only one..I know blinds are the most effective, but like the first poster I'm looking for a way to keep windows open and maintain privacy day and night..

I have looked into using tinting film(when windows are closed)..but the mirror look is too reflective and draws more attention..the black out is only effective durign day and with the frosted look you cannot see outside..

you can get black screens at HD or Lowes. i think they might be marketed as pet resistant screens.

I usually sleep with a 'Joe Morgan Autograph' next to the bed, so when I think someones getting ideas about peeping in I can sneak out and see just what I up against. I only needed to do it twice, the same weedy little guy scamping away all the while. So be prepared and get a bat, for the showdown times like I do I dont regret it at all.

I posted at 11:19. The screens I bought are ordinary window screens with black mesh and seem to block visibility from the street, though not completely. They are 24 inches high which is why I bought them. I got them at Pinchik/Ace Hardware on Flatbush and Bergen.

Thanks again anon 9:26..

I will look into that..Based on your posts I assume there was a drastic decrease in visibility...Thanks Again

RE: Mom Vidalia; Ill try anything...maybe a picture of President Bush and me will do it..

use clear contact paper with a geometric pattern. This will distort anything visible in front of your window but still let light in. You can get it at most hardware stores and it peels off the window when you move out.
