Is the market basically dead until after Labor Day?

Hi,

Should we give up our search until after Labor Day? It seems so slow right now; don't know if it's typical for August and/or jitters from the recent mortgage/credit news?

Thanks in advance for advice!

i am not sure which market you are referring to, but if homes, I have always found it useful to talk to the active brokers in the neighborhood and ask them what is coming on the market.

Hi,

Yes, sorry. I meant the real estate market. It seems like there are very few listings up and I wondered if in general things cool down in August and start up again right after Labor Day weekend.

It does start up pretty much right away after Labor Day. Do talk to brokers because they'll have properties coming on the market then and maybe you can get advance word on something you'll be interested in. Our broker was ready to hit the ground running right after Labor Day last year, selling our co-op. We held off, just like other sellers are holding off right now.

Not sure which neighborhood you are looking in but there has not been all the much inventory available in Park Slope during the past 12 months. Particularly if you are looking for a floor of a brownstoner on a nice block with atleast 1000 square feet.
