Interior Design Recommendations

Am gut renovating brownstone, but need help picking finishes (e.g. kind of floors to install, doors to use, hardware, bathroom tiles, kitchen stuff, molding pattern, etc.). The design build firm using does not excel in this arena. Are there talented people in this respect, who for a flat fee of say $25,000 would map out or sketch out or provide pictures of finishes that would look coordinated all together (and be tasteful).

I can highly recomend the firm igloo design. they are based in manhattan.

www.igloodesigngroup.com

it's just two people, they have done a variety of projects including residential, retail, hotels and some really great spas.

i think they'd be perfect for the kind of work you sound like you need done. they also design really incredible handmade silk rugs. i'm having one designed by them for my place. they won interior design magazine's award for a design of furniture a couple years back.

they do really great work.

i should note that i wasn't totally clear about what style you are looking to do. while i think they would be comfortable in a variety of styles, most of the stuff i've seen from them is a little more on the modern side. not crazy modern, just clean and sophisticated.

if you are looking for a historical recreation of a brownstone although, you'd have to ask them how comfortable they feel with that.

The guy's name is John Lorrigan, grew up in Manhattan, went to Parsons (I think)
He is very versed in townhouse design, has worked on many wonderful homes in Manhattan.

When I met him first some 6 years ago he travelled by bicycle and refused to carry a cellphone. The bike part was ok but get a phone John.
He did a couple of years later and we keep in touch occasionally. I don't have his number at hand but I can get it. I can not speak highly enough with regard to his character or his work It sounds simplistic but he is a hell of a nice guy.

I was starting a single family reno for a couple on Park and 36TH and at the clients' insistence we had a parade of maybe 6 designers over a two week period from apparent reputable Manhattan design firms.

I was amazed at their lack of knowledge of the area and the home - it is Italianate 1865. Franklin Roosevelt had lived next door, two had no idea who he was, the others had not bothered to read much literature on NYC brownstones ( if I am a designer calendaring a client on what might prove to be a good contract I might at least research the history of the block}
In the interim my number is 917 886 9576.

Red,

I m a PM/PA for a small architectural/interior design firm in the City. In the past we've mostly worked on apartment renovations/combinations in Manhattan, but have recently begun expanding into Brooklyn. We just finished up a townhouse renovation on 6th Ave in Park Slope and are currently working on a townhouse gut renovation in Boerum Hill.

My boss' name is Richard Massa and the company is called Richard Massa Architect.

If you would like to see images of the Park Slope interior or have further comments/questions, you can email me at dave@rma-nyc.com

Try Alex Fradkoff, cell 917-494-0082. He is remarkable and can design whatever style you are looking for e.g modern, traditional, etc. He has been featured in Architectural Digest, but is a down to earth, genuine guy.
His prices are extremely reasonable for his quality of work and his knowledge of the area.

His website is www.alexfradkoff.com which shows some pictures of his work.

Try ShoeBox Interiors. Jane has a great eye for color, finishes and detail. She helped us tie it all together with touches, that make graceful transitions, from room to room. You'll like her. She's very personable. Office is 718-330-0733. But easiest to catch her on her cell 347-495-7580.

I love Jane at Shoebox Interiors! I agree with the previous post, she does have a great eye for color, finishes and detail. We used her to totally renovate our apartment and she worked wonders. We've been recommending her ever since.

Alex Fradkoff is not an architect. He persists in selling his services as one, apparently undeterred by losing a lawsuit against him for fraud and forgery for this. This practice is a public menace!
