home security systems and vonage

I would like to install a home security system in my rowhouse and would love to hear thoughts on which companies you have had a good experience with. I currently use Vonage for my main phone line and would like to keep that service. Any thoughts/recommendations on companies I should contact? Pros/cons of keeping Vonage or is it better to just get a proper landline when dealing with home security?

I have Slomins and am happy with them. I did price comparison with ADT when I bought the house 2 years ago and they were cheaper. I just cancelled their "maintenance" fee to make the bill smaller since it seemed like insurance I didn't need (like wire insurance for a landline).
I will warn you that I don't believe in vonage or any of the nonlandline options for phones. During 911 and the last city-wide blackout a couple of years ago, the only phone I was able to use was my landline. Cell phones weren't working (too many people trying to use them) and of course if the electricity is out, then the other options don't work. If there is a city-wide emergency, I want to be able to contact the police or an ambulance, etc. and am willing to pay the extra for a landline.

My 2 cents

I have optimum voice and when I switched over to it from a landline, I had to get a cell guard installed by ADT (my security company). Seems OK so far.

We use vonage and ADT. We only have a cellular system and no landline. It's about $42 a month.. although I hate all the security companies and their contract requirements (3 years with ADT), I think ADT is the most reliable.
