Filing Plumbing/Electric for 1/2 House?
In contract on a 4-story, two family (double duplex) house. Old knob and tube service, cloth wiring, original plumbing. In order to cut down on costs until "phaseII" we are considering upgrading service and rewiring/replumbing entire LOWER/RENTAL duplex and leaving the UPPER duplex mechanicals reno for later. We plan to file everything...will DOB be cool with upgrading half the house? Will "tying in" the new on the lower half to the old on the upper half be an issue logistically or legally?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think DOB will like the 1/2 job. Also, i would be scared of a fire from the old setup - a bit of a gamble with the electricity and the downside is huge.

they could be fine, if you split the meters entirely and have no part of the wiring of the old, touch any part of the new. It's essentially the renovation of an apartment, cutting it off from the other apartment. Or am I missing something?

It`s wise to start at the top of a house and work down. Original plumbing means probable leaks and gravity will pull the water down onto new work downstairs.
