cabinet maker / carpenter rec?
We are looking at an apt that has a really nice wall of built-ins in the bedroom -- it's a set of dressers and cabinets that leave space for the bed. Too bad for us though, the owners plan to take them with them when they go. We might try to recreate them using measurements and photos, since they offer a ton of storage and look great. Can anyone recommend a cabinet maker / carpenter who would be good for the job?

Perhaps the same person that built them can build them for you.

OP here. We asked but he's not interested - I think he is ready to move out and move on.

You might make a cash offer for them. I can't imagine disassembling a built-in is much fun.

Hi, OP again. Believe me, we've tried. No dice.

I used a guy named Timothy Hill for some custom doors I wanted to match my kitchen cabinets and then to move built-ins from my mom's house to her new apartment. Very talented, very friendly, very relible as long as you're not in a huge rush - he is certainly more a carpenter than a contractor. The only number I have for him is (718) 596-0007.

Try Aiden of Emerald Furniture, he re-created a set of beautiful doors for a corner brownstone on Bergen St.

We've used David Greenberg of Anchorage Designs. Designed and custom built all the cabinetry for our kitchen in a previous apt as well as some pretty elaborate build-ins for the parlor floor of our current house. Extremely high quality work - he's a perfectionist in every sense of the word. His prices - while far from cheap - are in line with those of other serious carpenters. 718 625 2442
