anyone have any suggestions for an economic intercom system? Would love to do something with video but am afraid of how much such a thing will cost. We already had our locksmith install a magnetic strike for release--now we just need the system to hook up to it (without making too many holes in the walls). By the way its a 4 family--so in the event we do not go broke renovating the apts.-we will have 3 tenants. Thanks in advance for your input.

I can't recommend a specific system, because we needed something much simpler, but I really liked what I ordered from smarthome.com. They'll most likely have whatever you're looking for, and when I called with a bunch of questions before I placed my order they were very helpful.

We used this system for a 4-family, and really like it. The installation was pretty easy (luckily I had a relative visiting who knew audio-visual equipment, so he when through the wiring with me). http://www.lammensco-usa.com/videodoorphone/index.html?lang=en-us&target=p21.html?lmd=38788.399306
And the monitors are pretty sleek on the wall, and have a mirrored surface when the video is off - So you can check your hair before you open the door, I guess.
