Sweaty Pipes
Does anyone have a remedy for pipes that "sweat" when it is humid or raining? The large pipes in my cellar have been doing this a lot lately and it sometimes causes a musty lingering odor afterwards, as well as is causing the pipes and floor to peel. Thanks so much for any help!

Both a dehumidifier and insulation. I insulated my pipes last autumn, primarily to protect against cold/freezing, but it also prevents the condensation I used to get on all my plumbing in the cellar during the summer. The insulation is inexpensive, and you can get it at hardware stores. It's worked so well that I haven't had to use the dehumidifier yet this season.

You might want to restrict air infiltration on humid days and nights, increasing it when the humidity is forecast to be low, if that is possible.

Also at home depot they sell something for moisture. the`salesperson told me to put it in the basement along with a humidifier. It is called Damprid, comes in a juice-like carton.
