In it's broadest use, the term "brownstone" as used in NYC has come to mean any historic rowhouse, from late 18th Century federal frame through 1920's colonial revival brick. It would include frame, brick, brownstone and limestone-faced rowhouses.

Besides "brownstone Brooklyn" brownstones can be found in Manhattan, Hunters Point and Ridgewood Queens, parts of the Bronx, and Jersey City and Hoboken, NJ.

Ok. Cause the park slope dwellers make it seem as if it's such an exclusive thing where as people are shelling out millions to own them. Why?

Well, they are an exclusive thing since they aren't made anymore and the design and details of the houses are on grand scale, they are truly something special, no matter where they are. After you have lived in one for a while try visiting a friend in a modern apt. - it will feel like a cave.

You want to see beautiful 'brownstones'. Go down to Savannah, GA.

Wow. 3:24 really emphasizes the original poster's case. Not everyone has to share taste.
