brick moulding and Landmarks

We are replacing our windows on the front of our Landmarked house. The brick moulding and sills are pretty rotten from years of neglect by the former owner. We have contracted with Bay Ridge Windows to install Marvin windows and brick moulding. Our problem is that Landmarks has turned down our drawings because the brick moulding on the parlor windows will not be exactly as they were built. Marvin says they can't duplicate it exactly. We hesitate to keep the old part of the moulding that can't be replicated because the condition is questionable. Any suggestions of someone who could replicate our moulding around these two windows?

Why don't you ask your architect?

I had AirFlo do my windows and brick moulding, but I don't know if they would just do the brick moulding without the whole package. Why not ask them anyway.

OP here. The architect is through Marvin. Can't be done by Marvin because they are a mass factory type company. My thinking with EZ tilt is that they, like Bayridge, do installs not millwork. I need a millworker who can do this part of the job.

Hire a local architect who specializes in LPC/historic work. They will have dealt with this numerous times and can recommend who to use. They will probably have a custom millworker they can recommend to "tool" you a new custom moulding for the windows.

Are the moldings in question round or arched on top or are they all straight pieces? As long as they are all straight you can have them milled at Adriatic Wood or Dimension Lumber.

I suggest taking a piece of the existing profile with you. Dimension has several thousand profiles in their molder knife library. If they don't already have the exact knife you need , one will need to be cut for about $200. They will give you a price per linear foot in any species you want. BTW Adriatic doesn't carry clear Eastern White Pine.

OP, can you clarify "the architect is through marvin". The distribution for Marvin is based in LI, they have architectural "reps" who are basically there to assist arcfitects in specifying Marvin but they are not architects.
Marvin has roughly 45 custom profiles available, unfortunatley it will cost much more than what Southslopewoodworks mentioned, but it will be factory applied, so there is a labor savings.
We could have provided you with any profile needed that Marvin doesn't offer. Sorry if that wasn't explained to you.

Any profile can be replicated, and if you have a piece of the original it's even easier. Go see Amor at Heights Woodworking on 3rd avenue and 6th st.
