Appliances
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced appliance store in Brooklyn, in the Park Slope/surrounding area, or one that will deliver to the area? I am becoming increasingly irritated with PC Richard's, and would like to try somewhere else. Thanks!

EBA on Coney Island Avenue:
I think it would be best to go there in person (and pretend to walk out before taking any price as final).

J&R on 7'th Avenue in Park Slope - we have gone there for over 20 years. Their quotes are competitive with other vendors and they are very good to work with - lots of people in PS buy there; they are a neighborhood store.

I went to PC Richards in Astoria. My contractor recommended them since they have so much in the store and in the showroom. I got a young energetic smart guy by the name of Mohamed, who had an encyclopedic knowledge of products and bent over backwards to accomodate me. I had a terrible experience with my kitchen (Home Depot, don't ask) and couldn't take the appliances right away. He monitored the situation, storing the appliances for me. I also bought a dryer and some other stuff. We negotiated all prices and he actually talked me out of buying some stuff too. He was great, highly recommended even though you are getting aggravated at PC Richard. The Atlantic Ave PC Richards is pretty terrible; maybe it was the store you dealt with.
Good luck.

Thanks so much all, and yes, Donatella, it was the Atlantic Avenue store that I can't deal with! I appreciate all of the good recommendations.

AJ Madison were very helpful and fast when I ordered a dishwasher from them online. WAY bettern than Lowes, who took 7 weeks to deliver a dryer....

I strongly second the J&R recommendation. They are right on 7th Ave, they meet or beat any price on an appliance...they install, and if you run into ANY problems - they send one of their guys right out to take a look. After horrible experiences with both PC Richards and Home Depot - I only go to Ralph at J&R.

I had some good service from Joe at PC Richards on Atlantic last week, but generally the experienced suuuuuuuuuucked, starting with the fact that you need GPS and a police escort to get a car into their parking lot and then back out onto 4th avenue. There is only one way in, and one way out, and it is a catastrophically stupid POS of urban non-planning. The prices are good, but it's all Service With a Grunt, if you're dealing with anybody below white-shirt-&-tie manager level. If the staff pays attention to you at all. It's a battle getting an air conditioner or a microwave around here, man. I'm going to take some of your suggestions here next time-- thanks, y'all.

EBA (as suggested by Bob Marvin, above) is good. If you are up to it, haggle a price from PC Richard and then go to EBA for a better price. If you don't hav a car they're a short walk from the last stop on the 2 train.

Bob, I agree with your colorful depiction of PC Richards parking lot.
