Where can I get a copy of C of O

ConEd is doing some work on my electrical line and they need a copy of C of O to determine whether the property is commercial or residential. I never got the C of O when I bought the house. Any idea where I can get it? thank you.

If you're in Brooklyn - head to the Municipal Building at Joralemon and Court Streets. You'll need your block and lot number.

Most houses in Brooklyn just don't have a CO -- if they were built before a certain year (1930ish?) they never had one and never needed one unless someone was changing the occupancy. (And Con Ed should know this!) If one exists for your house, you would have gotten it at closing unless your lawyer was asleep on the job. However, you can double-check with the DOB website: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/bis/bis.shtml
Even if there's no CO, occupancy (commercial or residential) will be listed here.
