The 718 is getting more 212
My roommate and I have received the dreaded lease renewal of our Manhattan Duplex - it is going up a staggering $500 a month. Not going to rant about NYC becoming a gated community; instead we are using this opportunity to go beyond this borough. We are looking for a REAL 2 Bedroom in Brooklyn (preferably Park Slope, Fort Greene, Windsor Terrace). We need a place by 8/1 HOWEVER, since our landlord can make a killing on our place - the sooner we can get out, the better for both parties. ANY advice, suggestions, leads would be MUCH appreciated. Budget: $2300.00 We are not willing to pay a broker's fee. Thanks and we look forward to joining the 'hood.

stay in manhatten-its too bad this borough is looking so pleasing to people that the developers and owners feel they have a right to push the people who have made this community out and further into brooklyn to make room for people like you.

shame on you 2:59! My advice is to look at NYT online. Avoiding a broker fee may not really be worth it. You will see far more apartments and find something you truly love faster if you can open that door. Some brokers split their fee between tenant & owner. Craigs List is one place to look for sure but the better places are usually rep'd by brokers. Good Luck. In your price range you should be able to find something quite nice. Boerum Hill & Carroll Gardens should be added to your list, very quick commute on the F line.

You will find a real two bedroom, but not a renovated real two bedroom in that price range. If you prefer a renovated apartment, you will have to increase your budget.

I think you can find something on craigslist. I posted my wonderful apartments on craigs and got my tenants from there. It was much more effective than the Times, so if that's the case, more and more people will do it. Also, instead of increasing your budget, you can broaden your scope by trying other neighborhoods. My suggestion would be to see what's in your price range first and then explore those parts of Brooklyn you can afford. If you don't want to live in a gated community, don't move to Park Slope. Welcome to Brooklyn!

Every time somebody puts up a post like this it always strikes me: Isn't this an incredibly screwy way to look for an apartment, asking the apartment to come to you? In *this* town, of all places? Dude, you gotta burn some shoe leather if you ever hope to find someplace non-disgusting and in your range. Above poster is right: get to work on NYTimes.com, Craig's, etc.

I agree with 8:01, you may want to open your options a bit to other nabs in Brooklyn, maybe not the most desirable right now, as many were 10 to 15 years ago (Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bed Stuy), but Bushwick, Cypress Hills, E. New York have most of the same amenities as Park Slope, 20 min ride to the city, shopping, restaurants, laundry service, and more, and rent's are affordable, additionally they all have many gorgeuos brick and limestone buildings that have much original detail (Fireplaces, original mouldings, woodwork, etc,) try and keep your options open. All of Brooklyn has much to offer. Good Luck.

A real 2 bedroom in those nabes for 2300???????
Wait a minute while I wind back my clock.....

Yeah forget 2300 for a real two bedroom in park slope. A floor-thru (1.5 bedrooms) is even more than that! You can find one in windsor terrace, maybe. But since you mention the slope and FG I doubt you'll be happy in windsor terrace
I'm afraid the exodus from the "Manhattan Duplexes" started several years ago and became a torrent last year. Your neighbors got here LONG before you, and have more money, and aren't going to make room for you.
Try clinton hill bordering bed stuy. Get a jump on the next exodus from park slope.

The Upper East side is cheaper than Park Slope and a hell of a lot safer at night.

What's a "Manhattan Duplex" anyways?
A duplex, as i know it, in bklyn would be 2 stories/levels.
That's what you could have in manhattan for under $3000?!
you should stay then...!

I have one that fits this description that will become available either 7/1 or 8/1. It is a true 2BR apt. in a "prime" section of one of the neighborhoods you mentioned. Please post your email address and I will send you the details. It is renovated. No fee. Credit checks are necessary.

I am the poster of the original post. Thank you to those of you who intended to help; for those of you who feel I haven't "burned leather", I'll let you sit with the idea that I'm lazy. Thought people would be more helpful than spiteful. We found a place in Clinton Hill that is a 2 Bedroom, completely renovated, and way under our budget. Should it fall through, or should others be looking at this place for advice - keep the positive comments flowing.
