Small Job Contractors?
I am looking for a good contractor, one that is interested in small jobs. I have a wall to take down and a kitchen that needs to be installed but all the recommendations I have been given are high end GCs. Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks.

I posted a request for a similar request on this a while ago. We had received some overpriced (in my opinion) estimates to do the the following:
1. assemble & install ikea kithcen cabinets
2. do a subway tile backsplash
3. move pipes for the sink and gas lines
4. install a sink garbage disposal
5. paint the entire parlor floor
6. refinish the hardwood floors
There were of course a bunch of other nits & nats. Someone reccomended looking on Craigslist. Among a number of other proposals, we received one from a guy named Saar Kopolovitch. He is in the process of of doing this job for us. He managed a plumber to move some pipes, a painter to repair and paint the walls and someone else to do the floors. He pays everyone and manages them while he focuses on the kitchen. So far so good and he seems trustworthy. The price for all of that was originally $6k but it has gone up to $7.2k as we made some changes.
We are about ready for the floors to be completed, but so far so good. We are pleased with our contractor so far. His number is 917-803-1465 (Saar Kopolovitch).

I own a limestone in Crown Heights. It's taken a huge amount of work to get it where our rental unit and my apt were livable. My wife and i hired a man named Alberto Chica - 646.472.4842. I can't speak highly enough about Alberto. He's done everything from skimcoating to running new water / steam pipe / gas lines / installed 2 kitchens and a bathroom. His work is excellent, fast, price was right, and most of all he is great to deal with.

I own a brownstone in North Slope. I've used a guy named Engan to gut renovate 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen to high-quality rental quality. He's done a bunch of other smaller stuff as well. He was referred to me by a friend as well.
He's honest, reliable, communicative, fast. He's friendly and he works with you. His work quality is quite hi. His quotes are reasonable but probably not bottom-dollar. His number is 917-699-4497. Tell him Ted referred you. Good luck.

I would just take the wall down on your own and hire a plumber.

I strongly recommend Thahal Beer of Beer Home Improvement (646)358-6118. He doesn't have any fancy website and he really doesn't advertise. All of his work comes from recommendations and word of mouth. He's currently working on my house in Crown Heights and will be finished very soon. He's installed (3) kitchens, (4) bathrooms, skim coated, installed beautiful hardwood floors with mahogany borders and a wood medallion. His prices are quite reasonable. He's dependable and reliable.
