Insurance for Do-it Yourselfer

I am a do-it yourself guy. I want to build a simple deck on the roof of my co-op but according to my co-op guidelines I need insurance to do so. I'd rather not hire an expensive contractor when I can do this job myself. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing and can direct me to a company where I can get my own insurance?

It's not worth it unless you plan to do more work and spread the cost out over other jobs. It might run you $1600 for the year for "carpentry" with $3million liability/vehicle coverage. You might be able to cancel the policy but most condos /coops require proof that you and your work will be covered for a certain period past the completion of the job.
Go to any comercial broker. You might also have to get proof of workers comp. but you can get a exemption if you have no additional employees. You might me covered under your home insurance policy. I would ask first.

Check with the issuer or broker for your homeowners' policy. They might be able to do some kind of temporary builder's risk type of rider and then convert your policy back with an adjustment for the new work on your property. If not, check with a reputable broker, maybe another insurer will do something like this for you in exchange for getting your business.
