Why so many French people in Clinton Hill?
This is a bit off-topic for Forum, I know, but I'm curious and thought I would ask: Does anybody know the origins of the high concentration of French residents in and visitors to Clinton Hill? Have the French had a presence in CH for a long time? What, do they just did a hood with some gorgeous, historic buildings? If anybody knows and can share, thanks. Er, merci.

I heard that the French press has often featured Fort Greene (and perhaps mentioned Clinton Hill too) in newspaper articles and travel reports on NYC. There are many French families in the area. And there is even a little after school program run by one of the French moms whose along with her husband/chef own and operate the highly regarded Ici restaurant in Fort Greene. So it's probably just word of mouth. And the nice lifestyle this area affords its residents. Shhhh, don't tell everybody though, then developers will get the city to rezone nearby neighborhoods to try to co-opt it...oh, wait a minute, they already have! But at least this enclave will get to live on because it's mainly landmarked.

That's it? There are a lot of French students/faculty at Pratt? Any particular raison? (In all seriousness, English would be really helpful, here, myself lacking in the Gallic tongue....thanks!)

Non, en effet, les francais en general preferent des endoits bien etablis, voir, Manhattan, plus precisement, le "upper east." Mais il semble que peu a peu ca change, du moins en ce qui concerne la jeunesse 'branche' de Brooklyn.

One of them got a good deal on a building, opened a restuarant and did well. Several other members of his family moved in, and they bought their friends and created the french restaurant row (A table, l'epicerie, lulu, ici, chez oskar); many of them are related. I guess they brought their friends.
