Silent Paint Remover for moldings

Hi all!
I'm thinking about renting the Silent Paint Remover to strip some moldings in our new place. Has anyone rented from them? Good/bad? Will the SPR work on moldings? Any scraper recommendations? Sorry to be a pest, and thanks for any replies. Peace out- Hal

depends on paint and prob wood. heard good things but close to useless for us -> flat surfaces were a lot of work but doable, curved moldings impossible.

Suggest borrow one first if you can or try renting...

I have been using a SPR for 4 years and find it is great on woodwork that was originally finished with a varnish. The paint literally falls off the wood. If the wood was originally painted when it was raw forget it. You have to use a chemical for this. A good 5 in 1 tool works best for peeling off the paint with the SPR. Stripping paint is very tedious and time consuming. I have opted for removing the woodwork, engraving a label on the back and having it dipped and stripped, then reinstalling the wood. This has been the quickest and cleanest way for me as I enter year 5 of renovation

Agree with both posters above....
Great on flat surfaces, more difficult on curved. You may want to try a heat gun for the same effect as you can get into smaller areas. As for originally painted wood, true, it doesn't get it down to the bare wood, but it can take off the first 50 layers and then you can strip the rest with chemicals. It cuts the time by about 80%.

I have one and LOVE it. invest in good scrapers. You may still need to sand after stripping - but ti's easier then chemicals and I think cheaper if you have a lot to do.

If you have a quartz heater lying around you can do some test patches with it to see if the technology will work for you. They both use the same heating element.

Can you tell me where I can get the dipped and strip service. I'm in New Jersey and this would really help me out. I still need the SPR but there are some large doors I would like Dipped and stripped.

Cheers
