I'm thinking maybe you wanted the input from folks on this site.
Well, here's my .02 cents.
I think Bed-Stuy is on its way up... that said, there are some blocks to be avoided as it will probably take longer for those to catch on. Stuy-Heights (Marcy to Stuyvesant & Fulton to Hancock) you can't miss. even Jefferson to Madison is nice. Tompkins is getting new businesses all the time. Really nice "starbucks like" coffee shop just opened recently. Some trendy clothing shops and restaurants as well.
The Brownstone stock is pretty good too. Anything north of madison is pretty sketchy.
Hope that helps.

I looked at buying a house on Pulaski near Tompkins last year (the block I was looking at was near Home Depot). The block itself was pretty bleak (lots of unfinished new construction), and both nights I walked by there were like 5-10 teenagers causing havoc in the street.
I didn't feel safe walking because of the teenagers and general lack of... anything else, so I passed. But then when I walked back the way I came along the next block (tried once North and once South of Pulaski) I had a great time. Very nice folks.
Walk to and from public transportation a couple of times at night and see for yourself.
