window trim color
We own a home in a landmarked area. We are in the process of having our window plans approved. My question is... we would like to paint our window trim in a cream color instead of their original black. We wonder if anyone has been through paint applications with landmarks and can tell us how it went.

I have. Never asked about cream because it wouldn't look good (at least on our house). Nevertheless, all the options that landmarks seemed comfortable with were dark colors - have to be historically consistent - but this may not apply to your house depending on when it was built etc.

OP here. That's what I was afraid of. Our house is brick and limestone, so the dark colors look stark against the pale red brick. Interestingly, many of the all brick houses in our nabe have cream windows, even though all these houses were built before 1910.

you are allowed to keep the color you had before your house was landmarked but you always need permission to change it...

You should first prowl around your neighborhood and see what homes are out there that seem similar to yours that have light, or cream colored windows. You didn't say what style, era, or neighborhood your house was in though. But if you want to post that info. I may have some specific other houses you could use as a reference point. Then when you find these houses take pix of them to use as evidence to give to landmarks with your application. And they may have ideas for you too because they are all very chatty with one another (for better or worse) in that office.
