This site blows

How can Brownstoner live with himself given that you can barely upload 50 words to this friggin site, and when you do it often quadruple posts? Why is Brownstoner the only site that has this problem?

All you have to do is click the POST button once . Simple

There is something wrong with this site.

Uploads do hang, which means something is wrong, either RADIUS server or other authentication services?

I agree that, in theory, it is "simple" to post here. But when half the posters quadruple post, it's the webmaster's fault, period.

Wow, you must be exhausted from scrolling down.

Don't you have anything better to do than complain that this FREE resource isnt 100% perfect?

You've got to be kidding me? Press "Post", open another browser page, go on your merry way, and it will be entered in due time. Good Grief!

I agree...it is USER error when there are multiple posts. When I do online bill paying it warns me not to click submit again while it is processing...if it submits twice I will have paid twice. You can bet I am patient with that process. I agree with the previous poster...this site is a FREE resource to us. Pipe down.

Yes it’s a free site, yes, it’s a great resource. That doesn’t mean the software shouldn’t be upgraded. It doesn’t just take a long time to post; the posting times out with an error message; which leads a normal person to think they should re-post. The site is great and I love coming to it, however, multiple duplicate postings diminish the user experience; and can be easily fixed. Btw, constructive criticism makes things better..

I agree that the post function of this site is lacking; I don't agree with the nasty of tone of the original poster. The posts do take an excessive amount of time to reach the site. That is the reason I believe people are hitting post more than once, without realizing it will result in multiple posts of the same info. I think it is worth Mr. B's time, now that he has so much more of it to devote to the site, to improve this functionality. It will benefit his advertising dollars because more people will post. Sometimes I am just too busy to sit and wait for my eloquent words to reach the Brownstoner-sphere.

No arguments from us. Current situation is less than ideal, for sure. Anyone have any idea how we could switch over to Php without losing two years of content from the Movable type platform???

Posted by: brownstoner at February 13, 2007 12:08 PM

yes: cheap trivial method: build a php submit post page that queues stuff and refuses duplicates, and then post from the queue into movable type via a back-end process that is patient.
