Entryway Stucco or Paper
We have a 20' wide house (staircase on the left) and are trying to decide what decorative finishes to use in the parlor level entryway. We are planning to paint the stairwell, but would like to do another finish on the right-hand wall.
The choice is between William Morris-style wallpaper and Ventian stucco. Which will age better design-wise? Which is more desireable in case of re-sale? Our style is somewhat eclectic, so either finish would work well with the rest of the house.
One caveat: we could DIY the stucco, but would have to pay for the wallpaper & installation.
What to do?

Choose a finish YOU like. I suspect that most buyers will want to choose their own and that anything as small as finish of your entryway will have no impact on re-sale value.

I would go ahead and do the stucco. Then if you get tired of it you can always paper over it. You can't do the reverse without involving a lot more work.
