Condom Found During Open House of NEW development.

While touring a brand new development, we found a condom wrapper under the sink in the master bathroom. This place has not been lived in, but the master bedroom is staged with a bed. There was also a toothbrush, toothpaste, and shampoo in both the master bathroom and the 2nd bathroom. The agent told me that it was probably "the workers" who were showering there. However, this place was built in 2005. What's your take on this?

That is absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable. Was this for an open house? The brokers should have caught this. For all the money they get paid in commissions, this type of oversight is ludicrous. Hopefully, they'll let the developer know as there are clearly interlopers using his/her space illegally and for illicit purposes. This is the type of thing you might expect from a busy broker/owner in a heady real estate market but w/ the way things are slowing down, you'd think that they'd take a few extra moments to make sure everything is in order.

There was an article in the NYT about how couples sometimes try and sneak into new developments to have sex in the houses...

Uh, safe sex everyone? So typically shallow of the readers of this site to focus more on real estate values than on preserving life, as well as addressing the population explosion. Or maybe thgis was an intended "staging"?

Maybe it was a subtle (or not so subtle) subliminal marketing move.

Could be they're targeting young, virile, affluent young people for the development. You know - like they use things like the smell of baked bread (a symbol of prosperity), flowers (another symbol of virility by the way), and so on. At one open house I went to, the stereo was on softly playing Barry White. Now if that's not a sexual innuendo...

It's the same subtle marketing like how they name condoms things like "durex" or "magnum" or, most inspiredly, after that big wooden horse containing many eager warriors ready to sack Troy, all for a living symbol of feminity.

Subtle, right?

was the development a co-op or a condom-inium?

what development was it?

It was built by "MADE" architects. As in MADE it here while you weren't looking.

The majority of construction workers are from Mexico, almost 99% are Roman-Catholic whereas condom usage is deemed immoral. Therefore it is highly unlikely the condom would be from one of the workers.

who gives a sh*t? welcome to NYC.

Well if there is shampoo, I think someone might actually be living there? Maybe someone let a relative or friend sleep there. There is probably no point in getting bent out of shape about it, ther is no damage done. Also how is it new construction, built in '05 and still unoccupied? Has it been on the market that long?

I always bring one of those black lights CSI guys use to find traces of body fluids when I attend open houses.

While I know this is only going to stir the troll-like beast, may I suggest those who know me (and they are legion), know I would never suggest that being Catholic or Mexican would be a bar to the use of condoms! Can I ask that the above semi-bigoted statement about Mexicans be struck as unseemingly (especially as it has, sigh, been offered in my monicker)? I guess I have to sign in now...

Anyway at least it was only the wrapper.

Considering the shite that I see at most people's open houses, IMHO condoms, whips, assless chaps or leather teddies are not even remotely offensive by comparison.
