Plumbers grade fixtures versus Lowes/Home Depot

I was told by my plumbing contractor that the standard quailty of the fixtures he is proposing to use in my house are not the same as they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot. He said they mass produce those and they might look the same on the outside but the guts are not up to the quality he offers. I think he's full of it. Those discount places just buy more in quantity which they than can offer that stuff at lower prices. What's the truth?

The big box stores usually stock a few types of fixtures by certain manufacturers and are able to discount because they buy large volumes. They can order any fixture you want and usually it is discounted. The quality of a Kohler or any other major brand is the same in their store as in a plumbing supply. Try home expo.
