Cost of Gas and Electric to be turned on?
Buying house with previous negligent owner.
The gas and electric were turned off by the utility companies….what would it cost to re-instate gas and electric services?

It dosen't cost anything for keyspan or con ed to come turn the service back on but ...
Keyspan requires a $750 deposit when you open an account as a home owner .
Not sure about Con-ed

ConEd asked us for a deposit of $120 for a 4 unit brownstone -- supposedly 2 times an average monthly bill.

If you sign up for their direct pay program they will waive the deposit. The direct pay program auto-deducts the bill amount from your checking account each month.

ConEd will ask for a deposit if you don't give them your SS#.

If you already have accounts with con-ed and keyspan where you live now, you shouldn't have a problem. They'll let you transfer your account to the new address and won't blame you for what went on before you were there. But if you don't currently have accounts with them, they will make you give a deposit.
