1st time poster. I am wondering, when I install a carpet runner on an old staircase, what do I center the runner on? on the space between the inside of the newel post and opposite skirt board/wall (or) center on the upper landing and have it fall wherever it hits?
Thanks for your help.

If I may ask what is the name of the company where you got the rug? I have been looking for a while and can't find anything quality wise. Also was was the width of the carpet and length please.

I purchased the runner through a design center and they in turn, purchased it through another oriental rug wholesaler; I would imagine that any oriental rug dealer could offer this service. However, I almost went through "The Persian Carpet" Company (www.persiancarpet.com), which offers custom lengths, if needed. The issue that I ran into was that the edges need to be bound where a cut is made, as it is a hand-knotted material. As I am dealing with a carpet installer, he is aware of a company that comes to the job site to bind the edges; this is only an issue where we are ending at a nosing and is seemingly not an issue where a tread and riser meet. My particular width is 36", but that would depend on the width of your stairs. Interestingly, my second set of stairs (u-shaped) is narrower, so they sent a narrower runner. Each runner is separated by a landing and a turn, so not an issue; each runner ends at each particular landing.

Thanks for comments
