looking for a sheetrock person
I have to replace a crappy dropped ceiling in the rental unit of my house, and the plaster above is basically gone. Anyone have a recommendation for a good, inexpensive drywall hanger who can put up a ceiling fast, and is good at painting as well? Doing real plaster here is not an option for financial reasons.

You may want to lower your expectations: good, cheap, and fast do not usually travel in the same company when it comes to construction. You are bound to be disappointed in the end.

OR! You could stay optimistic and find the right person. Sorry to anon 8:48 - looks like they got screwed over one to many times. Check out the Handyperson referral thread from last week - after lots of crazy debate, I still recommend Joe Reno. Feel free to email me and I can give you his contact info. When my husband and I moved into our house, we knew we would have to get the ceilings redone. The seams were visible and the installer used nails instead of drywall screws. The nails kept popping out and we were left with gaping holes. It was horrible. Anyway, a friend I worked with recommended the Weekend Handyman. They were reasonably priced and very accomodating. The number is 212-714-4653. Ask for Sal and let him know what the issue is. I hope everything works out for you.
