Clothes Dryer

Any advice out there on buying a clothes dryer? (I already own a washer.) Are there any advantages/disadvantages of gas vs electric? What about venting? Does the dryer have to vent to the outside? I haven't yet decided whether to locate the dryer in the cellar or in the laundry room/closet in the kitchen on the garden floor. Your thoughts much appreciated. Thanks!

I love love love my Maytag dryer. When I first moved into my home my sister told me whatever I do - do not get an electric dryer. She has one and wishes she could get gas now. I have gas and it works out well. I have seen maybe a $5-10 increase in my gas bill and I do about 10 loads a week.

Gas MUST be vented to the out side of the building. Electric requires a 220 volt outlet but you do not need to vent it outside.

if you have the means to vent outside, gas gas gas. takes too much power to run an electric.

Go for gas. As long as you have enough space and a place to vent it, it costs a heck of a lot less and you get more power from gas.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like the unanimous winner is gas.

As the mother of 2 children who are now grown, I have used both and gas is vastly better.
