Spring garden
So....am thinking about the garden for the spring/summer...does anyone have any input about how much it generally costs to have someone come in and do landscaping in the garden? I am not fussy and want something natural and a bit wild looking. I am concerned about lead in the dirt because I am pregnant and know that lead is no bueno for little ones to be smearing all over their faces... looking for advice and recomendations. Is it $2000. or is it $10,000.?

A Spring Garden sounds great. We planted one last Spring after buying home the year before. We had no clue what to do then one day I just started playing and ended up a combination Asian garden, rose garden container garden. We went to a few garden centers to find inexpensive plants & bushes. So I just played for awhile till I figured out what I was exactly looking for.
I think after all was tallied about $800.00 for everything. Now looking to add some interesting rocks & old railings that would be perfect for the roses. Saw some at Renovation Depot in the Bronx. Loved this project.

Try $10,000. We had an fence built-solid cedar and terrific landscaping. Good luck.

You can spend as much or as little as you want. Retaining walls, stonework walks and patios, and outdoor lighting will run the bill way up. If you just want to move some dirt around and put in 20 plants you could certainly do it for $2000.

For another bid you should try Mike DiMezza 917-204-7362 (tell him Amy sent you off of Brownstoner). He is a good guy and will work in your budget or give you advice on how you can do it for the least ammount. His specialty is rooftop gardens, green roofs, & backyard gardens and he can make it look wild and natural. If you are familiar with Floating Island from this summer, he did that too.

Try Monica Fairbairn at Gardening by Design. She's building my garden in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. She can help soup-to-nuts on plant selection, layout, pricing, planting, maintenance, shade tolerance, etc. We're asking her to provide a low maintenance mix of plants providing color throughout the year. Prices are entirely reasonable for the quality we're getting, and a la carte so you get as much or as little as you want.
