ESCOs and Gas Prices
Since gas prices are so outrageous this year, I thought I'd do a little research on alternatives to Keyspan to see if I could get a better deal. Well, nobody makes it easy! I actually got the list of alternative providers (ESCOs) but they all quote their prices differently, have different programs, and the gas price varies daily! Of course, Keyspan isn't much help in terms of coming up with a comparison. Has anyone in Brooklyn actually switched? To which company and why? I know that fewer than 5% of customers have switched, maybe this is why. Thanks!

I haven't actually looked to switch providers, but I know the City is looking at ESCOs and trying to pass an import tax that would level the playing field between these ESCOs and Keyspan. The bottom line is: somewhere down the road, the price differential will no longer exist.

I created an excel spreadsheet a year ago in order to compare ESCOs. It's a lot of work. But it can be done. At the time acnenergy.com was the cheapest. They don't cover 4 fam bldgs so we couldn't use them. But just getting away from keyspan you do save a bit of money I think in taxes as poster above mentioned. And I think it's important to encourage deregulation if you can. When they first deregulated nat. gas in brooklyn we saved a fortune because all the companies were interested in being competitive. Competition ultimately helps consumers. So more people should use other companies!
