215 Hancock Revisited- stain color?

The parlor doors in the photo of this interior on the home page someone mentioned are mahogany? Is there anyway to achieve this patina or a more deep and rich stained look on stripped original pine doors?

Pine can be stained. It's tricky because soft wood doesn't always take up stains evenly so the results can be blotchy. Surface preparation is key. You'll want to remove every last trace of the top finish (wax, oil etc), thoroughly clean the wood with steel wool and mineral spirits, and then be sure to use a grain filler before applying stain. Buy a book on refinishing woodwork and furniture -- Lowe's, Home Dept, Barnes & Noble all sell these -- and proceed step by step.

In addition, you could also have your woodwork faux painted to look like mahogany, with the appropriate stain and finish used. It's not too difficult to do yourself, if you are moderately artistically inclined, and books are available. Faux finishing artists are also available for this as well. A good job will be almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
