Relocating a Staircase
Does anyone have any experience on relocating an entire staircase from the 4th floor to the 2nd floor of a brownstone? If so, how much should I expect to pay, etc.? Any advice?
This relocation is to allow privacy between our tenant's apartment and our duplex apartment.

adding an internal staircase is very different from relocating the main staircase. typically, owners find it less work and less red tape to add an internal staircase in your set up. relocating means getting a structural engineer involved to make sure the house doesn't sag as the area around the staircase tends to be the weakest link. also, you might find that relocating means you'll forever be stuck with the owner duplex set up, something that will affect the house resale value as it prevents future conversion to single family.
