Thresholds
We recently took down part of a wall between our dining room and kitchen to open everything up. After we level and tile our kitchen floor, there will be about a 6" drop down to the hardwood floors in the dining room. The new opening leaves a 60"x 9" gap to fill. Besides having a custom-cut granite threshold/saddle made, do I have any options?

What about a step?

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Why 6"? Sounds like bad planning. Is the other floor level?

None of the floors in my apartment are level - it was one of the downsides of buying in this prewar building.
4-6" was the estimate after a mud job leveling, and we apparently we MUST level the floor if we want to put down anything other than vinyl/linoleum.
This is a new experience for me, so anyone who might be able to provide a better estimate is welcome to contact me @ ejc@ejcory.com
Thx!

Can you level both floors? You can use a cement backerboard instead of doing a complete mud job they make mesh underlayment treatments that stabilize tile floors to prevent future cracking. Personally I think tile floors in the kitchen are hard on the feet and very unforgiving if you drop a plate. Keep thinking about your choices more before you do the step thing. Sometimes a smaller step is more dangerous. Visually you don't see it and could trip
