Raising Roof on Frame House
Hi- I have a 3 story plus full basement frame house, but the 4th floor slopes to 6.5" feet in the back. I want to raise the roof by 3 feet, but was told because it is frame I wouldn't be allowed. Does anyone know about this sort of issue? Thanks

Oh- did you find another way to resolve the low ceiling issue? Dormers or big skylight maybe? In terms of siding, I posted that question a month or so ago, (siding for frame houses) and there were some recommendations.

T & A Carpentry in Red Hook has re-done tons of frame houses in FG/CH and they are great. They are a high-quality, relaible company.
Arthur came out and did an estimate for us -- 25K for the front depending on the details (cornices, etc.) that we chose. We also have a 3-story frame house. That price includes taking it down to the studs and adding insulation/waterproofing. Wood and concrete siding were about the same, vinyl was much cheaper. I know people who have worked with them and had terrific results.
They can also install new windows at the same time.
Not cheap, but from what I've heard - worth it.
