Granite Counter Sources

Anyone tried E Stone, Inc.?? http://www.estoneusa.com $60 to $65 a square foot (versus $90 to $100 a sq ft from places like Acme Marble and Red Hook) all installation/measuring included... Any tricks I should be aware of? Anyone tried them? They seem reliable, quality looks the same/good as the other places...

and what about all those other Chinese granite/marble suppliers up there in the Williamsburg-area, just off the BQE?

i don't know if they are of the best quality, but there is a chinese kitchen and granite place on 60th and 2nd ave in sunset park. i got my counter top from there (about $1200 for the granite and $350 for labor). pretty happy with it. wish i knew about the place before i got my cabinets from weisman (which i'm not happy with the service or quality of the cabinets). i was told by the chinese salemen that the same cabinets would have been half the price. i told someone about it and it was also half the price of weisman. it's was $2500 for his cabinets instead of $5600 quoted from weisman.

I just got an estimate from allgraniteandmarble.com for granite countertops. Their factory is in NJ and the quote they gave me included delivery and installation in Brooklyn. I was thinking of checking them out this weekend.

what kind of cabinets? I'm in the market for cabinets

Do these price quotes include coming and making a template? I always wondered if the internet based suppliers do this. Stone isn't very forgiving and you know the supplier is going to simply charge you twice if they have to do it over because a measurement ended up being off.

The one I did includes the trip for the template. I even made sure they put it on the estimate they gave me.

to 12-1 11:18 AM post: the cabinets are wood cabinets of various stain colors. they are NOT particle board from Ikea or some HD.

for the countertop, they send someone to come measure (at no cost) and i think they would do the same for cabinets too.

I have a custom cabinet maker recommendation. David, who has a workshop in sunset park. He's a most pleasant man and does beautiful work for very reasonable prices.

When we renovated our apartment's kitchen last year, we got the granite from Design Expo for $88/sf. After we paid for it, they sent us to the actual fabricator to pick out a slab. Of course this place sells the same granite for $55/sf. They come and measure and their work is very good. For our current brownstone reno, we are skipping the middle man and using Swan Tile in College Point, Queens. (718) 321-8488.

HD carries cabinets that are solid wood (e.g. thomasville), unlike Ikea.

To answer your question -- I had my kitchen counter done by E-stone and was extremely happy. In my entire renovation of our house, they were probably the most professional people I hired. They came, measured and actually had the countertop ready a few days before it was supposed to be ready. I would highly recommend them. Their people really know what they are doing.
