I'm wondering if anyone knows where in Brooklyn I can buy lime mortar
or hydrated lime.

Hi,
If you need hydrated lime you can buy it @ all boros 200 3rd st 718 858 7600 (3rd st & 3rd ave) I buy my materials there.
Best regards,

My guess is that any building supply store would have both available. I hesitate to mention this since I'm no expert on lime mortar and you probably know far more than me, but do be aware that this is tricky stuff to work with. Lime can cause permanent eye damage as well as damaging your skin. It can also create a huge amount of heat (whn mixed with water) -- enough to make things catch on fire. So eye goggles, rubber boots and heavy gloves are vital! Paste this into your browser for more: http://www.lime.org/FactSafety12403.pdf

Thanks for the info J.
And thanks for the concern Roz, but to ease your mind, both hydrated lime and lime putty have already been mixed with water and are not nearly as reactive as quick lime...they are pretty safe to work with.
