Brownstone Elevator Installation

I am looking for some advice on installing an elevator. We will soon be having elderly grandparents living w/ us, and I feel that we need to have an elevator installed.

Who specializes in this kind of work? How much should I expect to spend? How obtrusive are such elevators?

i think there's a strike with the elevator companies in the NYC area

i think you can expect to spend at least 60k if not more

you need area for the elevator and if you're going with a hydralic, then you will also need another small room on the lowest level for machine room

It's probably cheaper to buy an apartment nearby.
Also, what about those chairs that go on the stairs?

there was information on installing in elevator in the Q&A part of the Real Estate section of the NY Times, a few months ago. Maybe you can search their archives.

You need to hire a GC because in addition to buying & installing the elevator, you will need some demo, electric, repairs, painting, etc. etc. The GC will get bids from elevator cos. for you. You will need architectural drawings for the bldg dept. and probably a structural engineer sign off as well.

Metal conducts heat better than wood and creates a hotter zone and does a better job of "radiating" the heat and not just pushing it out of the vent.

Curious what you concluded. I am thinking the same fro my 21' , but not sure it is practical.
