permits
In your experience, how long does it take to obtain a permit from the city for townhouse/brownstone permits? I'm doing interior work to replace the bathroom and kitchen. Thanks.

Took me about 3 months... it took two rounds (one objection the first time). I think that's typical. That was with an expiditor and architect. I hear the Brooklyn DOB is still very busy and overworked.

If your expeditere/code consultant is involved with the architect during the design process, you should be able to avoid most of the red flags that would get it bounced back. In that case, you can get a permit within a couple of weeks of submitting the materials if you're lucky.

If you have an architect that does alot of these it can be quick. Mine took a few days actually. I used a guy named Scott Schnall. He is very well known in Brooklyn. He actually has more drawings of buildings and houses in Brooklyn than the Dept. of Buildings. This is the guy to go to if you want to get started quick. He is on Atlantic Avenue a few blocks from the Dept. of Buildings.
