In Search of an Architect

My wife and I are in contract to purchase a 3-story brownstone in Bed-Stuy. We are looking for an architect to help turn our rough-draft renovations designs into real plans. Any recommendations?

We used Delson or Sherman for our renovation and loved them. Not only are they creative, but they really listen to their clients and work hard to help you stay within your budget.

Their advertisement is right next to your post.

Can you give a better idea of the scope of work? Interior only? Exterior too? Restoration only or restoration and new design (or new design only, no restoration)? Landmark?

The building is a three-story, two-family, 20'X40' brownstone with ten foot extension off back of garden level. It is on Quincy St. and is not landmarked. It needs a variety of work inside and out including exterior re-brownstoning, new windows, new kitchen and bath in garden rental, opening up parlor level kitchen, and two new baths in owner's duplex. Although somewhat upgraded, there is sure to be a some electrical and plubing work as well. We also would like to build a deck to provide garden access from duplex. The original floors need restoration and some repair. The walls are in good condition.

We close in mid to late May and hope to do work over the summer. Any input would be great.

we're going through this process right now...we called delson or sherman, but they were quite snooty and said that they won't do anything under $200K

others i've looked into:

baxt/ingui (manhattan based)
james cleary
alden maddry
william derman (recommended by grand renovations contractors)

feel free to email me with questions if you can't find info on these folks via google. (spintoto@mac.com)
