landscaping brownstone gardens

has anyone hired a consultant to help rethink a long-neglected garden? I'm not looking to turn ours into a House and Garden spectacular; but need some help figuring out what plants will work, how best to use the limited space, etc.

Yes, we interviewed several designers and ultimately hired Root-Stock and Quade in Park Slope. They offer a full range of design and general contracting services for gardens. Ask for John. They designed/installed did our front garden complete with plantings, urn, and trllis and we are very satisfied with the work. John is also the sweetest! In a year or two we plan to have him do our backyard (he's already designed it) when we have the budget for a large project.

Here's their web site:

We renovated our back garden last summer and used Gunn Landscapes. They were very professional and did a terrific job. If you call ask for Alec Gunn. If you want to take a look at some of their previous work, please check them out at www.gunnlandscapes.com
