Off Season Gas Use – What to Expect?

What is the typical off season therms use for National Grid for a single family house – small family?

I am sure it can vary a lot but our actual usage was $61 this past month. Sound about right?

Thanks

Tell me if my heating/cooling/electric costs are low, high or middling

I own a 4-story 3500sqft brownstone. Just worked out my gas+electric (so that covers heating, cooling, hot water). It’s 12k for the last 12 months. Is this in line with everyone else? I keep the house at 69 in the winter, 72 in the summer.

Has anyone participated in National Grid’s Enhanced Home Sealing Incentives? Was it worth it?

Time Warner monopoly?

Hi neighbors,

I live on 19th Street south of Park Slope and am trying to find an internet service provider. I previously had Time Warner but had major issues with spotty service and, of course, terrible customer service that never resolved the issues. I have checked with both Verizon and Comcast and both say they can/do not provide service to my area “because Time Warner controls that area.”
Does anyone have any experience with this or have any suggestions as to a different provider? Or can it be true that Time Warner really holds a monopoly? Is this legal?

Thanks for any help/comments!

Condensing Boiler

lm looking to purchase a dual condensing boiler for space reasons.
Its a 1bdr with 1 bath ( no bathtub only shower) kitchen and laundry room.
I’ve been suggested several brands and models:
Embassy onex, Rinnai, Bosch, Triangle tube excellence. There are so many out there. Would anyone recommend one over the other?
I was thinking the Embassy Onex as it is cheaper but also want a good machine.
Any recommendations?

boiler replacement/oil to gas conversion

Hi,
Just looked at a house with a very old oil boiler. Can anyone tell me anything about replacing it and/or converting to gas? The broker suggested that the gas company would give us a boiler as an incentive to convert — REALLY?? That doesn’t sound plausible to me . . .

How difficult/pricey is a conversion, and what does new boiler generally cost?

Thanks very much, I’ve been in an apartment for my entire adult life so I have very little idea about these things . . .

How Long Does it Take to Get a Water Meter?

Our condo has had an application in to the DEP for a new water service for a laundry room since November. Supposedly we have one of the best expediters working on this but how long should this process take? We haven’t even been notified of a date for the installation.
