Hot Yoga

A friend is scouting locations to open a hot yoga studio. The location will be in Prospect Heights or Crown Heights, on either Washington or Franklin Ave. Can a hot yoga studio flourish in this area? Is there any interest?

Food Near Bishop Ford HS

On Sunday I’ll be at a dance competition there from early morning until about 11 pm. Can anyone think of some places within walking distance that me and the other moms can go have a meal? Even names of delis or pizza places that deliver would be helpful. Once I park the car, I don’t plan to move it. Thanks.

IKEA Returns (Without Receipt)

Does anyone know if IKEA still has a policy to give store credit if you return a packaged item w/o receipt?

I stupidly lost my receipt for a bed frame I purchased and realized doesn’t work for us. Used to be you could return for credit, but the policy on the website doesn’t state that.

Anyone tested this recently to see if whether in person they will give credit at least?

Sid’s Hardware on Jay Street

I just noticed this afternoon that it is closed; the lights were on, but the shelves were totally bare. When did this happen, anyone know?

What is up with Ace Liquors?

What is the deal with Ace Liquors on Atlantic at Bond? They have no – liquor. Or – anything else for that matter. Is this place a drug front? It’s not a very subtle one.

Future of Sid’s Hardware

….well not gone quite yet, but this nearly eighty years old Brooklyn institution does seem to be on life support. Boerum Hill and Brooklyn Heights residents who have been patronizing this full-service hardware store in downtown Brooklyn and enjoying it’s comprehensive selection, and knowledgable and helpful staff will have noticed over the past year or so that the shelves are not being restocked and the level of service has fallen off dramatically. On a visit there this weekend I discovered why.

Asking a couple of workers what was going on, I was amazed that, despite their being surrounded every day by all the signs of a business in severe distress, they had very little idea of what this meant for them. It seems the owner retired from the business about a year ago, passing the helm to his daughter and son-in-law who apparently do not deem it necessary to keep their staff informed on the future of the store or their jobs. Small wonder the staff’s motivation to help customers has diminished. Another guy, marginally more informed, said that he thought they might be relocating in April, when the lease is up, though he had no idea where. Their current landlord is Forest City Ratner and I presume they’re looking for a significant uptick from what I hear was a sweetheart deal that was initiated when 1 Metrotech displaced the original Sid’s space.

It’s hard to know whether we’ll be deprived of a local store that, in comparison, made trips to Home Depot seem masochistic, because of incompetent management or a greedy landlord. All I know is, if they’re not succesful in reestablishing themselves in a new space, It’ll be a huge loss to me and, I suspect, to the neighborhood as a whole.

Tin Ceiling Tiles?

Anyone know a good place to get tin ceiling tiles? Or the modern ones made out of aluminum that look like pressed tin? Reputable on-line retailers or local shops appreciated.

Thanks!

One Storefront, Two Uses

I have a commercial tenant who uses my storefront as a deli. I am considering using a part of the store for my own business. What are the possible issues I should be aware of? For example, do I need a separate eatery permit if the deli already makes hot sandwiches? Can I open a second entrance for my own business? Is this considered subletting a store? Or is it an illegal use of the premise? Thanks.
