Recommendations for a Car Body Shop

My car is beginning to show the signs of being a Brooklyn street car, i.e. I am getting a collection of dings, I would imagine the bulk of them are from parking lots. So I would like to get the dings removed and the car detailed to remove the mysterious minor scratches which also keep appearing.

I am wondering if any of you have a good shop to recommend. I have a good mechanic but he really doesn’t do body work. I am in Fort Greene. I would also like a place which is fairly priced.

Thanks very much.

Artisan Art Reviews?

I’m looking into getting some things framed at Artisan Art on Prospect and Flatbush and wondering if anyone here has had experience with them. They’re not cheap, but the price is right if they’re good at what they do. Any tips? Caveats? Raves?

Curiously, the only Yelp review is someone griping about the lack of art supplies (presumably b/c Yelp has the frame shop mis-categorized as an art supply shop?).

Lumber store?

Any recommendations for a lumber store that will fill a small order for my DIY project? I need 2 sheets of sanded 3/4″ birch plywood (4′x8′), cut into long planks and delivered to my apartment. I used to go to Sid’s for these kinds of projects, but seems they’ve changed their business. I know Home Depot/Lowes would have this, but I’m usually disappointed by the quality of their wood and cutting. Thank you.

Union Market scales overcharging

I was about to pay for a few things at Union Market on 7th ave when I realized that the one apple I was buying was about to cost me $3.50. I asked cashier if that seemed a little expensive. She immediately said, “oh this stupid scale” and reweighed the apple bringing it’s cost to about a $1. I then had to ask her to reweigh the tomato which also came down in price significantly.
Beware. Not sure if its an actual scam but I can imagine a lot of people just paying without looking and paying over double in the process.

Commercial Space for Rent Sign

I’m looking for a place where I can buy a Commercial Space for Lease sign for my store. I want a size of at least 18″ x 24″. It can even be the type where I have to fill in the phone number.

Lowes and Home Depot and my local hardware stores only have those small “For Rent” signs, which I don’t want because folks looking for an apartment will call. I’ve checked on line and there are places that can ship but I was hoping to find something local. I’m in Park Slope.

Rocketship Comics, Closed?

Rocketship Comics on Smith has been closed for the last week or so with some cryptic, hand-scrawled sign on the door indicating they’d be reopening shortly. We assumed there was some emergency to which they needed attend and that they’d be back. Last night saw that the sign had changed to simply say “Closed.” This would be a pity. Any news?
