METAL STAIRS

I posted the other day asking for suggestions for an inexpensive stairway from parlor floor to garden floor that won’t be an issue for fire codes. Metal stairs were suggested and I think I want to pursue that option. Does anybody know anybody that can fabricate a simple, but attractive metal stair way for a reasonable price?

Staircase from Kitchen to Garden

I am considering removing an old wooden deck on a 1 family brownstone that enables access from back door (kitchen). I want to replace it with a simple staircase so we have garden access and expand the garden area where the old porch is.

Looking for suggestions for an inexpensive way to do this. What are the fire codes for this?

Staircase design for modern brownstone

We are looking for help with designing a new staircase for our gut reno’d brownstone – modern – everything had already been removed years ago. Our budget is wood but we’re having trouble finding images of modern wood staircases. Has anyone put a new modern looking staircase in on a budget that they are happy with?

Loose Stair Treads

Any idea what it might cost to repair loose treads on a staircase? Our home inspector suggests having them repaired from the underside. Is this expensive?
Thanks!

Free Mahogany Hand Rail

I’ve salvaged 24 feet of what looks like mahogany hand rail from an 1880′s Bstone. It is free to anyone who will use it (not sell it). It is a heavy rail, about 5″ at the bottom and about 5″ high. one piece has the “gooseneck” on it which attaches to the landing newell. I could not let it go to the landfill.

good condition.

Pick up is in Middle Village. Delivery to Brooklyn is $40.00

Strollers in Brownstone

so we just had our little baby girl. we live in rowhouse with 5′ high stoop and 4′ deep basement. it means wife needs to pull the stroller up or down the stairs. and she had problems with it. she got crazy stokke stroller just because it alegedly easier to pull up the stairs. but I do not see how.

so the question is: what you do about pulling stroller up the stoop? any particular tips about stokke stroller? she also asked aboul building rails to roll the stroller up the stoop. does it make any sense?

Rebuilding stairs from garden to parlor

In the next year, we want to replace the stairs leading from the garden to the parlor floor in our new place. We don’t know if the current, old, crooked, uneven stairs (frame house) can be overhauled or if the whole thing should be ripped out. Any advice? Recommendations? Ideas about reasonable budget and timeline? Thank you very much.

Stairs on Brownstone Eroding

The space beneath our steps in our brownstone is filled with a brown dust-like substance from falling sandstone(?) overhead. Does anyone know how to fix this problem (if it is a problem?)

Thank you!
