Hi Everyone, I’m moving to Bed-Stuy in the Fall, at least I think that’s what the locals call it? I’m moving from Los Angeles.

I’m doing some research on high schools for my son. I found a lot of lists of schools in Brooklyn, greatschools is a great resource too, but neither of these websites provided any info on how difficult the admissions test is.
Is it like getting into Harvard? DO you have to be some kind of genius? Or is just living inside the district guarantee you a shot?

Our child was accepted to Bronx Science for next year. Does anyone know how kids from Brooklyn (Park Slope) get there? Do parents get together and hire a bus? Or is it the long subway ride only? Would love to be in touch with anyone going there now or next year.

My wife and I recently sold our apartment for a decent gain. We have decided to take our gain and buy a house in Victorian Flatbush. I like the houses on the blocks just north and south of Cortelyou between Ocean and Coney. My wife also likes some of the areas near the Newkirk stop south of Foster Ave. Can any residents give me advice about the public schools in the area? I am not looking for my soon-to-be born kid to become the president or anything. I am just looking for a nice reasonable friendly public school experience. Clearly, I have no idea what I’m talking about. Help.

I wonder whether you have any advice for me. Though I have only fictional children at this point, I am trying to research the public schools in the zones where I am looking to buy a place.

PS 157 Benjamin Franklin and JHS 117/ Francis Scott Key came up in my zone.

What is the best website to find school ratings in Brooklyn? Do any Clinton Hill residents have advice on public schools in the area?

Can someone in the know shed some light on prime Northside Williamsburg. With all of the new construction, won’t there soon be a decent grade school in the area? I know that sales have been slow at the new waterfront properties but still one would think a school would emerge that would be comparable to some of the other more established Brooklyn neighborhoods. Can a school expert or two weigh in on this? Thanks!!!

We’re very interested in moving to Clinton Hill but don’t know anything about the nursery/elementary public schools in the area. Do they have a good reputation? What are considered the best schools in the area?

I know about insideschools.org. I know about the 3 or 4 good Public Schools in Park Slope. I know about Brooklyn Heights but other than that where are the good public grade schools in Brooklyn? Can someone with knowledge help me cut through the BS and let me know which hoods to narrow my search to?! Thanks!
