Schools (kindergarten) Bedstuy/ A train line. Utica ave stop.
Hi everyone. My 5 yr old son and I just moved to Stuy Heights Bedstuy (A train Utica stop). Right now he is in a private school in the East Village. I work in the West Village. We have applied to a few schools in Manhattan and are still waiting to hear if we made it in.( I am pretty sure that we did not though )Basically, I am wondering where your kids go to school if you live in the area? A “good” school is really important to me. any advice would be great?! thanx!
Bronx Science from Park Slope
We are in Park Slope and our son just got accepted into Bronx Science and I would love to hear from those who plan to, are or have sent their kids there, particularly regarding the school itself and the subway ride to the school. How difficult did the kids find the ride? Anyone use the private bus mentioned on Bronx Science’s website?
Thx!

What are some of the best district G&T’s in Brooklyn
We need to move into an affordable neighborhood so we are hoping for a good district G&T since BSI will probably be out the questions and district 15 is too rich for our pockets. TIA
Can someone please tell me about the Brooklyn New School.
I hear that it is a good school but why? Is it academically challenging, or is it more geared towards the arts. Do the DC’s get into the top Middle schools?
Seeking opinions on PS 130 in Windsor Terrace
Hi all. My husband and I are considering buying an apartment that’s zoned for PS 130. Would love to hear from parents of kids in that school, as our daughter will be starting 1st grade in Sept. Thanks much.

The Scoop on PS 8?
Hi Brownstoners,
I would love some information about PS8 in Brooklyn Heights (my son will be starting kindergarten in the fall and we are exploring both public and private school options). Could you please share your experiences and insights as a parent or a student at the school? I have, of course, done my research at insideschools, etc., but would appreciate more current info from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Thank you!
School Advice Needed
We were just notified by email that our two kids were offered spots in the Gifted & Talented program at P.S. 9 (The Sarah Anderson School for Music and Art) on the Upper West Side.
I obtained some information from insideschools.org and colleagues who live in the Upper West Side and it seems to be very popular school. I like the fact that it’s an music/arts school too.
The issues/questions, however, are:
- We live in Brooklyn Heights, so it would be a logistical nightmare to get them to and from school, short of moving to the Upper West Side.
- The kids are currently well-settled at PS8. They love it there and we think the principal and teachers are wonderful. We are very happy with the school.
- Why are there spots available at this time? I assume our kids must have been wait-listed and spots came up as families chose other schools and/or moved out of the neighbourhood.
I know there are many parents on this blog who have a lot of experience with the public school system and can offer very solid advice. Is anyone familiar with The Sarah Anderson School? Can you offer suggestions for other questions to ask the people there to assist in our decision?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Reputable Sites for School Ratings?
Hi, am looking at moving into Prospect Hts., but wanted to get a sense of the school quality there…specifically PS9 (Teunis). Are there any reputable sites for this sort of research (i.e. the Consumer Reports of schools)?
Main Line?
My husband & kids (5 & 6 yo) are moving to Philly for my husband’s job. Great schools is our priority. Can anyone tell me where the great schools are on the Main Line? Where would progressive, liberal transplanted Brooklynians feel at home (or hom-ish if that is the best we can do) on the Main Line? TIA
