New Radiators

Hi.
We have old cast iron radiators in multiple rooms in our apt. We are redoing our kitchen and want to get a new slim radiator bc it will take up less room and will match the new decor. Can anyone point me in a direction where I can find them? I’ve seen these new slimmer radiators around, they’re usually unpainted(?) but I haven’t had much luck finding them now. Thanks!

Top Floor Radiator

I have a one family house from 1908. We have gas boiler that heats the water in the radiators. The top floor radiators will not get hot. I have bleed them multiple times and air comes out but never any water. Any advice on how to get them hot?

There She Blows!

I live on the ninth floor of a prewar co-op. The radiators in my apartment are HUGE(45 ribs each) AND the management is cheap with the heat, only putting it on when enough people complain. To get the heat up to my floor and get the radiators hot, it must be blasted. Anyway, two of the radiators work fine, one starts to squirt water through the valve when the heat is blasted. It doesn’t do this all the time but has a few times over the years, resulting in damage to the neighbors below. Of course, my super is useless and only tells me to buy these $100 something valves, which I would gladly do if he would give more info regarding the name and size needed! What could be the problem(and solution) of this? Adjusting the pitch, changes to better valves? Any help is appreciated, as I’ve just turned off that radiator entirely and it’s COLD in there!!

Need to Replace Steam Radiators

Many years ago as a new and naive brownstoner, I removed two radiators from the parlor floor (dining room & entrance hallway)for aesthetic reasons. Twenty years later, heat from the risers only is no longer adequate for me and I would like to replace the radiators. Where do I find replacement radiators and having read old posts on steam radiators and importance of a balanced system, how can I tell if radiator is correct size for parlor floor (2nd floor up from cellar/boiler?

Radiator Paint Odor?

We just moved into a recently renovated brownstone in which the owner used oil-based high temperature paint to cover the hot water radiators. When the heat comes on, there is an oily/burning smell that comes off them. Not terribly strong, but persistent even though the heat has come on a few times already.

Is this just out-gassing that will dissipate eventually? Should we be concerned?

Is there a sealant or something we can use to ensure there are no harmful VOCs going into the air?

Steam Boiler water level and radiators spewing water

Hi, my first question is my boiler. The water level for my boiler rises by itself to the top (according to the water level gauge on the boiler), so should i be concerned about this? and how can i fix this?

And my first question leads to my 2nd question is when the boiler starts up and starts heating my house (basement and 2 floors), the radiators on the 1st floor spews water from its valve release on the radiators while steam is filling the house. Is the boiler being filled to the top with water by itself causing the 2nd problem. what can i do to fix this also?

Radiator enclosures in Clinton Hill Co-ops

Does anyone know if it’s possible to buy ready-made (not custom) replacement covers for the radiator enclosures in the Clinton Hill Co-ops? If so, where, and about how much do they run? Thanks.

Rotate a Radiator

Anyone know the process for rotating a steam radiator?
Is it possible to rotate it at a 90Ëš angle?
When we had a leak on this particular radiator last winter, the plumber had to rotate it slightly to perform work on it. Just curious if anyone has tried to do this with success and if it’s actually possible without much hassle.
