UWS/UES/Harlem plumbers
Yes, I know it isn’t the primary focus of this forum but I’ve been asked for some referrals. Most of the guys I know either have retired or are only interested in whole apartment renovations anymore.
emergency plumber for broken pipe
We have a broken pipe. We turned the water off. We called a plumber right away but the soonest they can come is several hours. Should I cancel and call someone else or just wait?
Brownstone renovation – plumbing recs
We’re renovating a 4 story brownstone and are doing all of the plumbing from scratch. It will have 2 kitchens, 4.5 bathrooms and a variety of normal drains and such. I’m trying to get some point of view on what we should budget for good quality work and who we should turn to as go to plumbers for this sort of job.
We currently have forced air but are considering putting in radiators – budget permitting.
Thank you,
David
Plumber Recommendation?
Can someone recommend a plumber for a cracked waste water pipe? re-leveling a steam heating pipe? and look into another misc. issue? Has anyone used Belsito Plumbers? I am looking for a good (cheap) price. Thank you!
At what point do you fire a plumber???
Recently bought a new house that needs extensive work. We hired a plumber to install a new boiler and basically re-do the entire house from a plumbing stand point. We started out on a good foot with the plumber that we hired but I have gotten increasingly frustrated with his late arrivals and no shows…he doesn’t even call but when we call him he always has an excuse – his guys didn’t show up, we changed the locks on the house and didn’t give him a new key (we didn’t). I have an extremely low tolerance for this sort of behavior but my husband thinks I’m being too harsh.
Is this common practice in plumber-land and do I have to relax on this matter? In terms of the schedule of payments, he has probably done the amount of work we have paid him for if not a tiny bit more but have two floors left to complete if that makes a difference.
Steam not rising in one radiator
I have a three story home and one of the radiators on the top floor will not get hot. I’ve had a couple of different plumbers come out and the result has been to bleed the system. This hasn’t helped. I am at a loss. What else might it be? I appreciate any suggestions.
Sewer Line Clean out
Looking for some recommendations for a company to snake/clean out the main sewer line and house trap for a 4 story townhouse.
Also anyone know the range I can expect to pay for this type of service.
Thanks!
Need plumber for sink/faucet hook-up
I’ve called 7 plumbers recommended on Brownstoner and all are too busy with heating issues to deal with my little job! I have an antique sink and faucet which need to be hooked up. They are being changed to use modern pipes, etc. at a shop. (I don’t know the correct terminology for the parts being upgraded.) The faucet may not be usable in which case I’ll want to have a new one installed in an existing hole or holes in the countertop. The hole(s) can be enlarged by the carpenter as necessary. Also need dishwasher installed and gas line capped.
I’m flexible on the timing of the work but need it finished within a short time of being started so I’m not without a sink for long. There may need to be some plumber prep work needed before the contractor installs the cabinets and countertop with sink. Coordinating the work is going to be the toughest part of the job.
This shouldn’t be that difficult to explain but I’m too tired to make it more clear. I think it would be a DIY job for many but I would like to have a licensed plumber do it.
How is Gateway Plumbing and Heating?
Please give me your feedback about Gateway company that charges minimum charge $225 and trip charge? Are they so good?
Pressure Gauge on boiler
I had an annual boiler inspection done on my hot water boiler and the inspector (engaged by the boiler insurance co) said that my pressure gauge for the boiler needed to be replaced. He said that I currently have a 0 to 70 psi pressure gauge but I am required under NYC code to have a 0 to 100 psi gauge because it must be able to read two times the maximum allowable pressure of the boiler, which in my case is 50 psi. When I asked him where in the code/regulations this requirement appears, he could only say that it is based on his “schooling” and that he believes the requirement is in the NBIC (National Boiler Inspection Code) manual. I tried to look this up but couldn’t find the NBIC on line. Can anyone who has a copy of the NBIC or is knowledgeable of the code tell me if the inspector is right?
