How Long to get LAA Permit?
I’ve searched the forums for an answer to this, and have not found one. I know that I need an LAA (limited alteration application) permit from the city before I can install a new gas line for a stove in my house. But what I don’t know is how long that should take. One guy gave me an estimate of 2 – 3 weeks, and another says 8 weeks. Has anyone filed for this and have an idea how long it takes these days?
How Long to get LAA Permit?
I need to get an LAA permit in order to run a new gas pipe and install a new oven in my house. My plumber says it will take 8 weeks. Does that sound right? It sounds a bit crazy to me.
Moving Kitchen and Permits
Exactly what kind of permits need to be filed to move a kitchen? We would like to renovate and move the kitchen from the back of the house to the middle. I am considering working with a friend that is an architect but does not have a license. I’m assuming that most expediters have someone to submit plans like this, any ideas of cost involved? Could the proper permits be filed by an electrician and plumber? Thank you so much for your help.
Permit to Replace a Fence?
Hello,
Does anybody know if we need a permit to replace a fence?
I’m replacing the old hurricane fence for a stockade fence.
I called DOB and the operator said no. I wanted to check here to see if anyone here knew.
Thanks.
storm enclosure permit??
my 1 family house has an open entry porch which is about 22ft x 8ft, if I want to put up a glass or fiberglass storm encloure to cover the entire porch, do I need to get work permit from DoB? I can not find any yes or no answers from the DoB website, can anyone here shed me some light? Thanks in advance.
Zoning & Permit Questions
I passed a house under construction and am trying to figure out if the construction is legit. The job was approved in 2006. The block was rezoned from R7-1 to R3X in 2009. An original permit from 2006 and an extension from 2008 expired before the rezoning. In 2010 they got a new extension approved and are now busy with construction.
Question 1 – Should the permit renewal have been approved despite the rezoning? After all there was a 2 year lull in construction so this is really a new job.
Question 2 – The main issue I have with the construction is that the second story porch is being closed off into residential space. Would R3X allow this?
The BBL is K-5076-14
Work Requiring Permits or Licensure
Is there a form/booklet somewhere that tells what kinds of work can be done by a homeowner without a permit or license? I have searched the DOB website and can only find bits and pieces and they all seem to be related to specific projects such as decks, room additions, etc. We are going to start rehabbing the house we just bought after closing and can do just about anything ourselves from many years or rehabbing properties we have owned and lived in out of state. We want to hire a contractor to remove a few walls, beam as necessary, etc and I’m sure permits would be needed for that, but am more curious for things like swapping out light fixtures, wall switches, receptacles, new toilets and sinks, adding a dishwasher, swapping out the gas range, replacing the entry doors (in a non LPC area), laying tile or new wood floors, wall tiling, etc. This is a legal 2 family but we are going to be using the whole house as a one family – although for future resale purposes we would like to keep it as a legal 2 in case someone ever wanted to convert it back. I assume you can legally use a 2 family as a one without doing anything special right?
How to Research
My husband and I are first-time house hunters considering buying a brownstone that will need renovation. Does anyone have suggestions for books/websites/general resources where I can learn what I need to know about the DOB, C of Os, and all other bureaucratic difficulties in one place? The Brownstoner forums are incredibly useful when I know what questions to ask or search for, but I feel like I’m going at this from the wrong direction…
Green Roof Permit
Does anyone know if DOB permits are required for a green roof.
Pulling a “Saturday work permit” at Brooklyn DOB
Hi,
We are working on a new building and my contractor wants to pull a Saturday permit to get more done. I would like to go to Brooklyn DOB myself to do this so I dont have to pay my expediters fee. Does anyone know what forms I need? Is the “PW5″ the only form I need?
As I understand I just go to the 8th FL of the DOB building and get a number and wait to be called…it this all? Is there anything else I need to know?
